Campaign against piracy online successful
IPR in China      2010-02-08 16:10:26

In 2009, National Copyright Administration, jointly with the Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, carried out the fifth special campaign against online piracy and investigated 558 cases of online infringements and shut down 375 illegal websites. Besides, there were 25 cases that were suspected of criminal guilty handed over to judicial departments. The campaign lasted for 4 months.

Director of copyright management department of Copyright Administration Wang Ziqiang expressed that, the special campaign focuses on two aspects: one is to fight against piracies of online videos and infringing culture websites, the other is to reinforce the active administration over internet enterprises and websites.

As the problem of online piracy is still so serious with vigorous combats against online piracy, online piracy becomes an international issue, pointed out by Wang Ziqiang.

Wang believes that, online piracy is hard to eradicate, but we still need to confine it to some extent by strict combat. "Chinese government is determined to fight against piracy." In next step, the combat against online piracy will focus on cooperation, such as cooperations with the Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology; meanwhile, industry associations and enterprises will also be encouraged to participate in the campaign.

Since 2005, National Copyright Administration has cooperated with Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to carry out regular special administrations annually on online copyright. [Chinese version is available on gmw.cn]
